Trapster Mobile Phone Application Review

This week I had to travel from the Hartford area to the Syracuse area, which is about a five hour drive.  When I purchased my Droid, I also purchased a universal car mount for using the navigation feature, but I knew the route which was mostly highway so I decided to load the Trapster application to test it out on a long highway trip.

Trapster is a popular application on the iPhone and available for many other smart phones and navigation units, and if you don’t have a smart phone or supported navigation unit, you can get text alerts and report traps with a toll free telephone number.  For more information directly from the company, check out their website at Trapster.com Read the rest of this entry »

Getting Started with BlackBerry Themes with Theme Studio v5.0

The BlackBerry The Studio has replaced the Plazmic Content Developers Kit for creating your own BlackBerry themes.  The software is easy to use for beginners, yet it offers a lot of possibilities for more advanced developers.  In this post I will explain how to get the Theme Studio software and Simulators and create a basic theme using the sample graphics.

The first thing you need to do is obtain the Theme Studio application which can be obtained directly from BlackBerry here. If you do not have a developer account you will have to read the agreement and create an account, if you already have one just login.  Under Tools and Downloads you should download BlackBerry Theme Studio v5.0. Bing for Mobile App Review for Storm with Screenshots

I have read that the Storm 2 was shipping with a Bing app, so this wasn’t a huge surprise when I saw that Verizon pushed the Bing for mobile application to my Storm 9530.  I typically use Google and Poynt for my searches and don’t really need another method for searching, but I have been impressed with the desktop version of Bing and the mobile search page was recently updated to work better with touch screens so I decided to give it a try.

“My Verizon” App pushed to BlackBerry Storm

A couple days ago after updating to OS 5.0 I noticed that Verizon had pushed the “My Verizon” application to my Storm.  I wasn’t sure what it was so I checked online to find out that the My Verizon application was launched earlier this year for trackball BlackBerries to allow users to check their minutes and data usage, view account balance, make payments, view plan, add/remove features and change their voicemail passwords directly on the handset.

BlackBerry Storm 9530 Update to OS 5.0

I was excited last night when I started seeing tweets about Verizon finally launching BlackBerry OS 5.0.  At 10:15 pm eastern time I plugged in my USB cable and opened up the Desktop Manager.  After clicking on the check for updates button, I was told that an update was available.  I verified my backup options, hit next a couple times and let the system begin the download and install.  About an hour later the installation to version 5.0.0.328 was complete.
